Tata Steel Ideation Contest

Jointly submitted by Shehzad Karkhanawala (12BM60065) and Happy Garg (12BM60103)

Tata Steel is looking for an original idea that will use any aspect of digital technology (cloud, mobile, Android, IoS etc ) to create an application or platform that can be integrated with the strategic management requirements of the company. Since this is an ideation contest, no software need to be built but paper must contain the following sections.
  1. Identify a need or a gap in the current management architecture of Tata Steel. Information available in the public domain can be used for this purpose.
  2. Propose a solution that will show how the current gap can be closed or narrowed significantly
  3. If possible give examples where a similar solution has or is being implemented.
  4. List benefits -- economic or otherwise -- that will accrue to the company if it is implemented. Also identify potential problems or difficulties that need to be guarded against.
  5. Provide  rough estimate of costs including people costs that the company would have to incur as a one time expense and as a regular expense

Implementation and Deployment of a Business Application for Human Resource Management


With a cut throat competition in the global market, it has become pivotal for organizations to retain their most important asset human resource. The success graph of any organization depends largely on its workforce. In order to handle employees efficiently, human resource management is indispensable. Human Resource Management (HRM) software is being increasingly used by employers to manage their work force.

Business Requirement:  
Bizfriends Pvt. Ltd. is a software company that develops ERP solutions for its clients. Some of the projects undertaken are human resource management and customer relationship management software for clients like McDonalds and Protech. Bizfriends needs a total HRM solution for managing its own employees. Bizfriends has planned to customise and deploy open source HRM software. The software should take care of the organisation structure, employee information management and updation, pay grades, salaries, work shifts, leaves, attendance, recruitment process, key performance indicators and performance reviews. The software should also indicate the time spent by employees on different activities of different projects. The software should embed the organisational hierarchies and should indicate who reports to whom. Various reports must be generated regarding attendance, employee details, etc. Users apart from the administrator must be able to login to edit their personal details and view the remaining details.

Kolkata Municipal Corporation - Complaint Registration System

User Manual

This Complaint Registration system is intended to serve the residents of Kolkata city. The residents may register their complaints, regarding some problems in their area(ward) of residence. The problems faced by residents may be pertaining to health, public buildings, drainage, water and all other fields that come under the purview of Kolkata Municipal Corporation.

The user may navigate to the following tabs:
  1. Complaint Registration: The user can register his complaint. He has to enter his personal details and complaint details in the form. Fields marked with asterisk (*) are compulsory to fill. Once the user submits these details, his complaint gets registered and an email is sent to him on his Email ID, as an acknowledgement. A complaint ID is allocated to every complaint and the complaint status is automatically made Open. The user has to enter the following fields :
    • First Name: User has to enter his first name.
    • Last Name: User has to enter his last name.
    • Email ID: User has to enter his valid Email ID.
    • Mobile Number: User has to enter his mobile number.
    • Landline Number: User can enter his landline number.
    • Contact Address: User has to enter his contact address.
    • Select your ward: User has to select his ward of residence from dropdown menu.
    • Complaint Category: User has to select complaint category from dropdown menu from among Drainage, Encroachments, Health, Illegal Construction, Dead Animal Removal, Existing Property Complaints, New Property Creation, Public Buildings, Roads and footpaths, Streetlights and Water.
    • Complaint Details: User has to enter a brief description of his complaint.
  2. Complaint Status: The user can check his complaint status by navigating to this tab. He has to enter his complaint ID in the field Enter your complaint ID. The Complaint_Status gets displayed. If the complaint status is Open, the complaint still has to be addressed. If it is Closed, the complaint has been addressed.
  3. Contact Us: The user can obtain the toll free number of the 24x7 call center, to register his complaint.
  4. User Manual: The user can have a look at this user manual.
  5. Home: The user will be taken to the Home page.
The administrator may navigate to the following tabs:
  1. Administrator View: The administrator can have a look at the registered complaints. The complaints of the same ward are grouped together. The complaints are also sorted as per other criteria. The administrator can edit the complaint status from Open to Closed and vice versa.
  2. Reports for Administrator: These reports highlight the categorywise and wardwise distribution of complaints. The categorywise complaint distribution report indicates the problems faced by people of Kolkata as a whole. The wardwise distribution of complaints report indicates the effectiveness of the municipal corporation in different wards in implementing preventive measures.

Requirements : Complaint Registration System - CROMA

This complaint registration system should allow customers to register their complaints regarding the consumer electronic products that they buy from Croma stores. Consumers should be able to register their request for servicing of the products. The administrator should receive requests from consumers and should be able to use the system for assigning a technician to each of the consumer requests.
Roles:

1.      Customer
2.      Administrator

Steps of Action:

Customer

1.      Navigate to the Customer Complaint form.
2.      Enter the Customer ID provided at the time of purchase.
3.      Enter personal details like first name, last name, email ID and phone number.
4.      Select the product type from a list and enter the product ID provided at the time of purchase.
5.      Enter the date of purchase.
6.      Enter the preferred date for service and select preferred time slot for service.
7.      Satisfy all validations and submit the form.
8.      On submission, the customer gets an email as acknowledgement and the administrator gets an email specifying the service request of consumer.

Administrator

1.      The administrator receives an email specifying the service request of consumer.
2.      Navigate to the Administrator form to assign the technician.
3.      Enter the Customer ID of the consumer to whom technician has to be assigned.
4.      Enter the name and code of the technician to be assigned.
5.      Enter the date of service.
6.      Enter the authorisation signature that is only available with the administrator.
7.      Specify the Email ID of customer.
8.      Satisfy all validations and submit the form.
9.      On submission, customer gets an email specifying the details of the technician assigned to him and the date of service.
